Landon Wilburn, 11, has a future as a cop – a traffic cop.

The youngster, who used to shout at speeders to slow down as they drove through the Stone Lakes subdivision in Louisville, now has taken matters into his own hands.
Dressed in a reflective vest, wearing a bicycle helmet and armed with an orange Hot Wheels brand radar gun, he points and records the actual speed of passing traffic.
Landon also carries a flashlight with a built-in siren.
“When I saw it happening, I got the biggest kick out of it,” said resident George Ayers, 61. “People were locking up their brakes when they saw him.”
Many in the subdivision are frustrated that motorists tear through the neighborhood at 55 mph despite signs posting a 25 mph limit.
Officials said the city will install speed humps in the neighborhood if 70 percent of residents agree and are willing to put up half the money.
Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

SpeedTrapAhead reader Travis S. emailed recently to warn drivers in Austin of a dangerous Speed Trap area for westbound traffic on W. 15th street, just after passing the Lamar bridge.
Travis, who stated he hadn’t had a ticket in well over five years, got a surprise when he was cited for speeding in that area. Then, to add insult to injury, he got another just nine days later, even when he knew about the danger around that area and, “was trying to be careful.” Sorry, Travis.
Also in that area, there are often motorcycle cops along the small feeder roads to MoPac. Such as, westbound Enfield after turning left onto Winsted Lane. This is basically a residential road that is a feeder approaching MoPac. Keep your speed down here, as it is easy to get going too fast in your anticipation of entering the onramp.
Travis, thanks for your tip. Sorry that you’re having to deal with these unfortunate tickets; but, perhaps your experience will help others to avoid the same misfortune. Anyone else that knows of a especially nasty speed trap area, please email us. Even if it’s somewhere outside of Austin, let us know that too! We’re wanting to make the speed trap map as comprehensive as possible.

Yep! I was running an errand during my lunch hour, and almost got busted by Austin PD motorcycle cops — FOUR of ‘em! I saw the first one shooting his radar/lidar gun upstream and managed to slow down enough to be out of trouble. Just in front of me was a big Austin FD pump truck. The cop waved at them as they passed. I think the cop would have a hard time giving me a ticket when the firetruck was speeding along beside me. The other three cops were a little further down the road, lights-a-flashin’, writing out tickets.
Anyway, 45 minutes later, on my return trip I saw that they were still there.
If I had only had time to stop and set up my sign! It would’ve been GREAT! I’m still looking to set up my first SpeedTrapAhead station. Everything’s almost ready to go.
If YOU know of somewhere in Austin, TX where cops hang out and issue speeding tickets, please email us. Even if it’s somewhere outside of Austin, let us know that too! We’re wanting to make the speed trap map as comprehensive as possible.

Yep! It happens to just about everyone at some point or another. Just when you THINK you’re paying attention, an unexpected speed limit reduction hits you! This area of Martin Luther King Blvd. in Austin, TX has a very short stretch of school zone (20 mph). Yes, a lady I work with came back from lunch and told us about getting the ticket. According to my co-worker, the sign markings are NOT obvious, like they should be. She’s gonna go back later and check to see if the flashing lights are (were) operating at 2:30 p.m.
I’m gonna go by there soon and check things out, myself. Sounds like the perfect place to set up an STA (Speed Trap Ahead) station.
