It's been about 24 years since I was an officer in Texas, but one of the first things I learned about was "Official Oppression". Here is the link to a site that quotes the Texas Penal Code on Official Oppression. http://law.onecle.com/texas/penal/39.03.00.html

Looks like it might apply here.

@Cindy

Been a while since I made a post, and you're probably long gone from ever reading this article again or it's comments, however your last post you mentioned 'I was just voicing my opinion, just as you were yours'.

Well Cindy I guess it would be OK if the admin hands your IP address to the cops so they can come shake you down since you seem to think voicing opinions is reasonable suspicion for the cops to come and hassle you right? Because that's all the admin was doing by wearing a shirt, voicing an opinion.

If a guy can't hold a sign without being arrested or harrassed, what have our soldiers fought and died for? Where is the incentive for other young people to go and risk their lives? What's it all about if it's not about freedoms?

Seriously, this comes right down to whether or not we are what we say we are "Land of the free".. Apparently your town cops don't seem to feel the same way.

It is sickening to see them infringe on your rights with impunity.

You show that you understand our soldiers sacrifices mean something when you hold your sign. These officers try to make their sacrifices mean nothing. YOU are a true patriot!

Man, they really have it out for you! Dubrow really, really dislikes you as does the Lakeway PD, judging from your previous ticket. But, don't let up! Give them hell! I live here and have really lost all respect for the Lakeway PD. There is no question that all they care about is revenue, and you are interfering in that regard. Its funny how law enforcement demands respect, but I am sorry, respect is earned not demanded! After seeing this, and my other experiences with them, it really reinforces my desire to sell my house and move from this place. As to others who say, "Its easy don't speed", I have to respond, how many times have you been momentarily distracted while driving and had your speed creep up on you? Or, late at night while being the only car on the road, decide not to make a total stop at a stop sign, because you can see no one else is around, only to have a cop stop you for running a stop sign? (And why is this cop not on the main road looking for DWIs?)

UPDATE:

The Pre-Trial hearing has been postponed until September 11, 2009. I finally got copies of the complaints filed to the court. Only four instead of the original six; but, they all reference a city sign ordinance that was modified AFTER I received my tickets. Seems that the sign ordinance was amended to include (among other things) a prohibition against WEARING signs. Interesting. My lawyer is working on getting that mess clarified.

Cindy:I just got a ticket yesterday driving back from tallahasee , the cop was hiding around a turn with a dual stalker DSR radar unit that can read your speed 1.5 miles away , my radar detector went off but I look down at my speed and I was doing 60 on a two way road , right passed the cop I saw a sign that said "55" so I slowed down to 55 and kept driving , he pulls me over and tells me that the speed limit is 45 around that turn , I told him I didn't see a sign and proceeds to give me a ticket anyways telling me to "look more carefully next time "

Some cops mean good , but some know places were the speed signs are obviously hiden behind bushes and other signs and people can't read these signs , specially if you are not familiar with teh area .

I have no problem with cops busting people doing dangerous speeds , but reality is that some of these officers like to stand in places were they know the speed dips from 60 to 35 for isntance for apparent reason at all and were the speed signs are hard to see .

Trust me , there was no blind drive ways or dangerous obstacles here , just trees .

And to the original poster , I commend you for your guts , good luck with your case !

I beleive you are protected by a bunch of statues and constitutional rights , however if you know what the Federal reserve and income tax is you will know that this country doesn't always stick behind their own laws and goes out of the way to mess with people trying to stick by them if it gets on their way.

Wow! Talk about being touchy! First of all, I am not an officer nor do I even know where Lakeway is. It does sound like Lakeway has an issue in the previous comment you made but that is not how all officers are. Of all the officers I know, none of them are in it for the control. That's like people thinking that just because you live in Texas you own a horse or cow...that's just stupid and closed minded asumptions in my opinion. I didn't come on here to attempt to 'battle witts'. People were voicing there opinions so I voiced mine. I don't know the story or all the details on the arrest so I can't say it was wrong or right. I don't believe people should talk on the phone while driving, I do know that cell phones are extremely dangerous and people using them while driving should be issued a ticket before they kill someone (such as my friend who lost two teenage daughters to someone texting while driving). I'm not against the concept of making people conscience of what they are doing because something has to get their attention....just don't endanger oneself in doing it. Last thing I have to say....it's ashame that to the standards of Law Enforcement Academies has had to lower its entrance standards to be accomodating to what is called "minorities". I believe that the highest requirements should be met whether you are a man, woman, and any race. That right there is why you have a problem with the police in your area...it all boils down to having to lower standards because someone complained that they weren't treated fairly because they couldn't pass the tests that had been in place for years. Again, I'm not here to match witts..I feel it's ashame to assume that all officers are bad just because of a few that are. Again, they are not all in it for the control. So please be nice to the next one you see...he could be giving you helpful information about something ahead.
